here I am in a little cottage that evokes the energies of my ancestral lands - a cottage on the moors of Cornwall, or on the cliff tops of Ireland or Scotland. It has a hearth. I am a hedge witch {of sorts}. I wear upcycled clothes, patchouli oil and Redback boots. I am a gypsy; an eccentric and a mystic [I often live with a foot in two worlds]. I serve my guests, tea from an old silver teapot. I love Vervain, yarrow, chamomile & mint. the journal of ms*robyn

so just what is an illustrated discovery journal? hmmm please don't ask me as I truly don't know. I first heard about it from Alison at brocantehome. An idea from Simple Abundance. It is just something that sounds like lots of fun & a simple pastime - very childlike. So off I went a day or two ago and found myself a little book with handmade paper pages. And I decorated the front cover and created a title page. I am really not sure where it is going or what I will be doing in it. So far, just a few favourite pictures - ones that touch my soul every time I look at them. My problem is that I get so hung up about 'doing things right'.... I need to let go. Oh and the fact that I find it hard to cut up magazines that I love.

Just let it all go...Let your authentic self out and bit by bit it will be an amazing journey, all laid out in your journal. Another testiment to who you really are. I've started mine too, and I can't wait to learn more of myself as the pages start to fill out. I feel so excited!

Oh Robyn now you've inspired me doing one too! On Christmas at my parents house I went through a whole lot of childhood pictures of my sisters and me, borrowed them and then my daughter has scanned them all for me. Now I can post them or print them out, whatever I like, I think this is a good start for a journal about myself and then er.... let's see what's coming out of it.

I know what you mean about tearing out pages of magazines that you like, I often have the same problem, but you can also print out so many beautiful pictures from the net and then use them. It's even easier to glue them than magazine pages because the paper is making less wrinkels and bubbles. I have the feeling that my altered book which I've done last year was kind of a discovery journal to me.

Btw when I see a magazine that has lots of beautiful pages, I go and buy two copies, one for collages and the other one is, well to keep.

Looking at the example on Brocantehome, it looks to me like another form of collage, which you are no stranger to, Ms Robyn! I have a box full of pictures and other things that I have cut out or just collected over the years; far too many to stick in a book, but I suppose I could pick out the very best of them. Come to think of it, I did do that once, using one of those Coles scrapbooks. I pasted pictures of cute baby animals that I had - kitties, pandas, and koalas mostly. Must get it out and have another look!

I would have a hard time cutting up magazines too...but I do save articles or pages of decorating that I like and save in a binder!
